Tragic Discovery: Remains of Vanished Mum and Daughter Located in Freezing Units in the Alpine Nation

The remains of a 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter have been discovered inside freezing appliances in an flat in western Austria.

The victims, a Syrian woman and her daughter, who had been unaccounted for for several months, were uncovered on Friday. The cooling units were hidden behind a drywall partition in the dwelling, situated in the Innsbruck area.

Two individuals, a 55-year-old Austrian and his 53-year-old brother, were detained in June. The elder brother, a colleague of the female victim, stated to authorities last week that there had been an incident—but rejected homicide.

Informing journalists earlier, a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office stated the pair were being kept in custody on "serious suspicion of intentional killing".

Personal details of those implicated have not been disclosed by police, in compliance with national regulations.

Their going missing was first reported by the woman's cousin, who resides in Germany, on the 25th of July last year.

Authorities said the 55-year-old suspect claimed at the time she had embarked on an prolonged visit with her child to travel to her relatives in the nation of Turkey.

The victim's bank card was then discovered to be utilized overseas on multiple occasions.

However when officers entered the woman's home, her smartphone was discovered.

Someone also claimed overhearing a disturbing sound in the apartment, and shouts of "mama" on the occasion the two were thought to have disappeared.

A wider police investigation was launched, with authorities finding various messages sent from the woman's phone—including a notice of quitting to her company and messages to the male colleague.

Law enforcement stated a significant cash transfer was also moved to the individual.

The head of the State Criminal Police Office stated to media representatives on recently that a storage unit had been leased before the victims' disappearance and a cooling unit had been positioned inside.

The two suspects extracted the appliance from the facility on the date the victims disappeared, the official revealed. And a shortly afterward, they acquired another freezer.

Investigators believe they believe this points to the deaths were premeditated.

"How they died was not identifiable due to the advanced decay of the bodies," she said.

The prosecutor's spokesman—representing the state—stated the exact sequence of events is still unclear, but the remains were carefully placed and were not found during a previous house search.

While the brothers were arrested in June, it was only on the 12th of November that the suspect acknowledged an incident and to hiding the bodies. He disputes any murderous intent, authorities confirmed.

In a related development, his brother confessed to a concealment but rejected awareness of a murder.

The pair are presently in detention before court proceedings in prisons in separate locations, situated at a distance.

Via a shared communication, the nation's official for women's affairs and Justice Minister said the "alleged double murder... represents the sudden and brutal end of two individuals and exposes a heartless setup".

"Females of all ages are falling victim to homicide due to the simple reality that they are women and girls," they added.

"Femicides are a deeply rooted and issue affecting all of society that we must address decisively."
