Incoming Women's Tennis Association (WTA) leader Valerie Camillo understands working around the clock in her previous roles - such as her time in a strategic role with a brand management group which runs American country music superstar Dolly Parton's entertainment venues.

Beyond the expertise into Parton's portfolio, Camillo takes over the leadership of women's tennis armed with deep knowledge across sport and entertainment, previously occupying key executive jobs at the National Basketball Association (NBA), major league hockey and Major League Baseball (MLB).

Camillo commences her new role at the WTA in the coming weeks, succeeding the outgoing Steve Simon, who led for a decade concludes upon his departure.

The existing separated structure often causes supporters and backers confused and disillusioned.

Importantly, the leadership of professional tennis was challenged via court proceedings from the players' union, which has criticised the governing bodies for neglecting the interest of its stars.

The WTA knows the definite upside of collaborating with the richer ATP, yet the new chair aims to avoid her tour from losing its voice during important talks and promotional activities as a result.

Considering issues concerning tournament dates and athlete exhaustion is a key focus area.

With her role meaning she leads both athletes and events, she must listen to the needs of both parties and achieve compromise between driving revenue and athlete welfare whose talent generates it.

Within athletics, Camillo can apply her background gained while leading the business operations with the hockey franchise ice hockey team - including transforming the team's stadium to premier venue - and holding financial leadership with the MLB franchise sports entity.

Her understanding regarding business complexity across premier competitions - particularly how they unlock supporter base development and secure funding through innovation - considered a key reason in her selection.

Her move into women's tennis comes at "a moment of accelerated growth and opportunity"according to the organization.

Currently represents across women's competitions. Revenue generated throughout female athletics recently reached record levels and industry experts predict reaching $2.5bn (£1.8bn) by 2030.

The new leader's goal will be to ensure the WTA and its leading stars - including Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek - obtain meaningful share of the pie.

"Our organization includes top competitors internationally and occupy a privileged spot across female athletics," Camillo told.

"Across women's sports, funding, viewership and coverage expand significantly.

"Generally the challenge for women's sports requires creating visibility, attracting fans and eyeballs and attention," added Camillo.

"Our challenge is a little different - we've been at this for 50 years plus, possessing remarkable tradition, extensive international reach, and including highly visible, top-compensated female athletes globally."
