Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side only seven months after starting derogatory chants directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road concluded through agreement this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue his beloved club away from the drop zone.
Previous History Between the Striker & Wilder
The pair had history prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
Everything appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Challenges
The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
