NY Introduces Portal for Citizens to Share ICE Images After Detentions of Four US Citizens

New York state AG has launched a new reporting form urging residents to share visual evidence of ICE operations across New York. This action comes just a day after a major ICE raid disrupted NYC's Chinatown, triggering widespread protests.

American Citizens Arrested During Enforcement Action

A congressional representative revealed during a midweek briefing that four American citizens were taken into custody and held for "almost a full day" after Tuesday's raid. Rallies broke out in NYC on consecutive evenings.

"Each citizen deserves to live without fear," the AG stated in a announcement.

"If you witnessed and captured federal operations during the raid, I ask you to provide that footage with the authorities. We are dedicated to examining these reports and evaluating any legal breaches."

Form Details

The portal includes spaces to send visual evidence of the incident, along with a area to note where it occurred. Prior to sending, users must mark a checkbox that acknowledges that "the office may use any documents, photographs, or videos in a public document, including in a lawsuit or official statement."

Information about the ICE Action

The Manhattan operation, which observers say included dozens of federal agents, occurred in a well-known area of NYC where counterfeit products and additional items are regularly available en masse – frequently to tourists.

Footage of the incident show multiple covered and weaponized officers restraining and arresting a man, and pushing back onlookers. Masses of New Yorkers trailed the agents along the roads. An military-style transport was observed moving along the Manhattan avenues.

Official Reactions

At a Wednesday press conference held with the rights organization, Representative Goldman, a lawmaker, stated that four US citizens were arrested by immigration for about 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where US citizens should be detained for without cause." He said the individuals were let go on Wednesday with no legal action taken.

"The intent is obvious here. It is not about removing offenders," the congressman said. "This represents a military-style operation to incite tension. It is simply a justification to provoke conflict for federal officials to bring in the military to stop conflict that they have created."

Broad Criticism

Fury over the immigration operation escalated – every political contenders criticized the incident, along with NY's governor.

"Yet again, the current administration selects authoritarian theatrics that generate terror, not safety. It has to end," one mayoral candidate declared.

NYC community groups spoke out also.

"Immigration agents descended on Manhattan's Chinatown with armored transports, masked agents and tactical gear to target local sellers attempting to earn income. This raid had nothing to do with citizen protection and everything to do with terrorizing immigrant families and areas," stated the president of a advocacy group.

ICE Policies

Agency rules prohibits the detention of US citizens and the bureau has claimed it does not apprehend US citizens. Nevertheless, external research has discovered that over 170 American nationals have been taken illegally by federal agents since the beginning of the existing leadership.

Recent Pattern

ICE raids have been rising in frequency in NY and across the US recently.

An October operation in midtown Manhattan was the initial documented operation on an refuge facility of the existing leadership. Rallies targeting immigration enforcement are commonplace including allegations of aggression and inhumane treatment.

Recently, a document submitted by legal entities stated healthcare failures of women with child in government custody.
