Letitia James Confronts Federal Financial Fraud Charges
A national judicial panel has indicted the New York attorney general over allegations of financial misconduct on Thursday, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The US attorney for the eastern district of Virginia personally presented the case before the judicial panel on Thursday, the person said.
US attorneys seldom address a grand jury.
Halligan was appointed as US attorney last month after the president became frustrated regarding the progress in ongoing probes involving adversaries.
This action marks a recent strategy to weaponize the Department of Justice to penalize adversaries.
It comes 14 days after charges were filed against James Comey.
Career prosecutors prepared a memo for that matter outlining the reasons charges were not justified.
Comey denied the charges on Wednesday.
