Turning to the American Football Conference, postseason landscape is thoroughly confusing. The current division frontrunners after ten games: Indianapolis, New England, Denver (all standing at eight wins) and Steelers (5-4). Read that again. Not the Chiefs. Buffalo is missing. Baltimore and Cincinnati are absent. Historically strong franchises, featuring premier quarterback talent, display either significant personnel gaps or have been hit by injuries.

To some extent, this is exactly what the league wants. However, witnessing the current division frontrunners in the AFC still feels strange. Aspects of each franchise suggest title potential, though not comprehensively. Colts Situation

Beginning with the Colts, Daniel Jones hasn't descended to pumpkin status. Yet the past two games have raised concerns. He has returned to committing turnovers and struggling against pressure. He was sacked seven times versus Atlanta in the weekend game, and endured a brief period during which he tossed an interception and coughed up the ball thrice. This follows he turned the ball over on five occasions facing the Steelers.

The Colts’ offense excelled during early games because Jones avoided catastrophic mistakes. Jonathan Taylor and the offensive line ensure Indianapolis remains capable of overcoming periodic mistakes, like their German performance. However, if Jones reverts to his previous error-filled form would end postseason aspirations.

Patriots Examination

The Patriots seem relatively comparable. Previously, they were league laughingstocks. Today, they stand as football's most unexpected success and the most successful franchise in football after seven straight wins. Except for fumbling away a winnable game facing Pittsburgh, they'd possess nine wins, one loss with the top standing. Previously, they seemed veteran and plodding. Now they’re youthful, quick and confident. However, we must acknowledge the weakness of New England's opponents. They have faced the most manageable schedule in the league, and flaws have still emerged. The signal-caller has been brought down 35 times – among the highest totals – and some of the shots he absorbed on Sunday appeared dangerous. As the season progresses, that punishment compounds.

Broncos Situation

The Broncos hold 8–2 as well, and the perception remains that they're barely surviving. The Denver signal-caller has shown inconsistency, and the offense plodding, while the defensive unit provides most of the responsibility. Lacking competent QB performance, the Broncos aren’t scaring playoff opponents. Los Angeles remains nearby in the AFC West at 7-2, however, health issues within their blocking corps will make it tough to mount a deep postseason tilt.

Steelers Examination

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh exists, inexplicably frontrunning their division even after suffering 25-10 by the Chargers on Sunday night. They've been outscored overall, their defense too often disappears, with their quarterback's restrictions given his veteran status regularly manifest. They maintain a 5-4 record while surviving, however, the Ravens, featuring a recovered Jackson and the schedule softening, have won three consecutive. We shouldn't be completely astonished that the Ravens have narrowed within a game of the Steelers, though the speed of this shift represents criticism toward Pittsburgh’s inconsistencies. Considering the Ravens opened the season 1-5 and still look like capable of division victory reveals much about the complete conference.

Traditional Powers

The Ravens represent a segment of the Big Three – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – driven by elite quarterback play, that would continue to generate the greatest concern in opposing teams should they reach postseason. They're the teams everyone hopes to avoid, but the Chiefs and Bills persistently undermine themselves.

They didn’t just lose against Miami; they suffered humiliation, dropping a 30-13 road game. This represented Miami's initial victory over the Bills in several seasons.
