Egyptian Diplomatic Chief Calls On the Palestinian Group to Accept the US Gaza Strip Proposal and Disarm

Egypt and Qatar are currently engaged in diplomatic moves to urge the Palestinian faction to accept the former US president's demand to stop the conflict in the Gaza Strip, per the Egyptian top diplomat.

Growing Diplomatic Pressure on Hamas

Badr Abdelatty emphasized that the time had come for the organization to lay down its weapons and avoid providing Israeli forces any excuse to prolong its offensive in the region, where two dozen Gazans were lost their lives on Friday.

“Let’s not give any excuse for one party to use Hamas as a pretext for this mad daily killings of civilians. What’s happening is far beyond the 7th of October,” Abdelatty remarked.

The diplomat explained that Egypt is “coordinating with our brothers in Qatar and with our colleagues in Turkey in order to convince Hamas to respond positively to this plan”.

Key Points of the US Initiative

This proposal would demand Hamas to:

  • Surrender weapons and exit politics
  • Hand over the remaining 48 hostages from the previous year's events, including two dozen are presumed to be still alive

In exchange, Israeli authorities would:

  • Pull back its forces from Gaza
  • Be replaced by an multinational troops
  • Allow a transitional authority led by the former president

Most analysts agree that the proposal would lead to the dissolution of its existence as an armed Palestinian resistance group, while the Israeli side would give little ground.

Disagreements within the Faction

The organization is divided over how to respond, with factions requesting more time to evaluate the proposal.

A senior commander has objected to the plan, seeing it as a strategy to destroy Hamas if they agree.

Sources close to the group suggest that Hamas is inclined to seek modifications regarding:

  • The requirement to lay down arms
  • Remaining troops of soldiers in Gaza
  • Assurances that the group’s leadership will not be attacked

Gaza Situation Deteriorates

Israel continued its offensive in the northern area and shelling across the territory on the recent day, killing 28 people.

Several of the victims were in the northern city, while the rest died in southern Gaza, with three in an unmanned aircraft attack in al-Masawi, which had been once declared a protected space.

Israel issued its final warning for Gaza City on earlier this week, with the top defense official announcing that individuals left would be labeled as militants, a classification that violates humanitarian standards.

Hundreds of thousands of residents remain stranded in the urban area, including those who are unable to pay for the evacuation to the south, which allegedly requires more than $1,000.

“Countless individuals are forced to sleep outdoors while seeking refuge,” said a Red Cross spokesperson.

United Nations agencies declared that there is no protected area for those escaping the city, as areas labeled as “safe zones” in southern Gaza are dangerous.

James Elder described the concept of protected spaces as “absurd”, stating that bombs are dropped with alarming regularity and educational buildings serving as safe havens are frequently demolished.

Medical Services under Extreme Pressure

Medical facilities in southern Gaza are stretched to the limit, with the aid clinic accommodating over twice its designed patient load.

Recently, a major medical facility admitted 27 bodies of people shot dead by the troops.

Dr Ahmad al-Farra described the conditions as “exceptionally challenging”.

Israeli forces has been reported as striking hospitals and medical workers, with medical staff reportedly taken while on duty in a southern city.

Israel has often stated that detained healthcare workers had links with the group, though offering no substantiation.

The overall death toll from hostilities in the strip has amounted to at least 62,622 Gazans fatally injured and nearly 170,000 hurt, according to the local health officials.
