Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
