One teenage youth was found dead just days after being falsely blamed of stealing the ashes of a dead infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her child. The communication added: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the items was not stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains attracted social media comments, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The inquest heard that one 19-year-old urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest received testimony from school personnel at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they never got that communication.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator told the hearing he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was freed while inquiries continued."

The coroner concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to determine his intent."
